The speech of His Excellency President Ilham Aliyev at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, in addition to presenting Azerbaijan's fair position to the international community, also embodied a call for peace and cooperation in the region.

The 80th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, held in September 2025, became an important international platform where world leaders presented their positions against the backdrop of global challenges. The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, with his speech at this session, drew the attention of the international community to the agenda of regional security, justice, and peace. At the beginning of his speech, President Aliyev highlighted that Armenia had kept Azerbaijani territories under occupation for nearly 30 years, and during this period, more than one million Azerbaijanis were deprived of their native lands.

He particularly emphasized that four resolutions (822, 853, 874, 884) adopted by the UN Security Council in 1993 were not implemented by Armenia, which dealt a serious blow to international law and the organization's prestige. During his speech, the head of state emphasized that Azerbaijan's Patriotic War in 2020 was conducted in accordance with international law. His Excellency the President noted that Azerbaijan merely exercised its right to self-defense recognized by the UN Charter, and as a result of the 44-day war, restored its territorial integrity. The entire world was once again informed from the UN rostrum that Azerbaijan, as always, is a supporter of peace today and is ready to take real steps for lasting stability in the region. In his speech, Mr. President drew attention to the fact that more than 1 million mines were planted in the liberated territories, which slows down the reconstruction process and poses a threat to people's lives.

Overall, the head of state's speech was significant in terms of its profound content, approach to global processes, and calls to action. Among the notable points in the speech were issues such as climate change, energy security, global justice, and selective approaches. In general, Mr. President Ilham Aliyev's speech at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, in addition to presenting Azerbaijan's fair position to the international community, also embodied a call for peace and cooperation in the region.
