“To ensure flight safety, the captain of an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) Airbus A320 aircraft, operating flight J2-020 on the Saint Petersburg–Baku route, decided to return and land at Pulkovo Airport due to a technical reason (landing gear malfunction).”

AZAL released information about this.

It was stated that, in accordance with all safety procedures, the crew carried out the necessary measures by expending a certain amount of fuel before landing.

“According to the established procedures for such situations, emergency and rescue services at Saint Petersburg Airport were put on high alert. The aircraft successfully landed at Pulkovo Airport at 04:43 Baku time. During landing, the aircraft slightly veered off the runway.

The 155 passengers on board were promptly evacuated. No injuries were reported.

Another AZAL aircraft has already been dispatched to transport passengers from Saint Petersburg to Baku.

AZAL expresses its gratitude to the passengers for their patience and understanding, and extends its thanks to the services of Pulkovo Airport for their professional and coordinated actions,” the statement said.
