US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that Washington intends to remain in the North Atlantic Alliance and that the US withdrawal from NATO is not on the agenda. According to him, the Alliance continues to be important for the US in terms of security and strategic interests.
The editorial reports that Scott Bessent avoided directly answering the question of which issue is more important for the US – the annexation of Greenland or the North Atlantic Alliance. He emphasized that he does not consider such a comparison to be correct.
The Treasury Secretary noted that "this is the wrong choice" and added that European leaders will eventually realize the necessity of being under the US security umbrella. In his opinion, the transatlantic security system is still one of the main pillars for Europe.
