Hotel Prices Skyrocket in Mexico Ahead of the 2026 World Cup

Mexico has recorded an unprecedented surge in hotel prices on the eve of the 2026 World Cup. The sometimes tenfold increase in prices has caused concern among tourists and brought the economic impacts of the international event to the forefront.

According to The New York Times, as reported by the editorial office, the cost of a one-night stay in Mexico on June 10-11, when the opening match will be held, could rise to as much as $3,800. The rate of increase places Mexico at the top for price hikes, while New York and Los Angeles, already having high hotel rates, are further down the list at 12th and 13th place respectively.

This situation once again highlights the impact of major sporting events on tourist flow and the accommodation sector. The price increase in Mexico raises questions about whether similar price hikes could occur in other countries during the tournament and creates additional risks for tourists planning their travels.
