In the first 7 months of 2025, nearly 40 thousand hectares of forest and natural areas in Turkey fell victim to fires. This figure covers an area equivalent to 60 thousand football fields, approximately 75 percent of Istanbul, and about 5 times the size of New York City.

The editorial board reports that the main causes of the fires are drought, a sharp increase in temperature, and the human factor. Fires, particularly those in the Mediterranean region, have also caused significant damage to settlements and agriculture.

According to preliminary data released by the General Directorate of Forestry of Turkey, thousands of firefighters, dozens of helicopters, and planes have been involved in the extinguishing efforts. Ecologists draw attention to the seriousness of the situation, emphasizing the importance of taking urgent measures against climate change to prevent natural disasters.
